Help in discovering Kwieshin

Dear all,

I'm trying to find out where my roots lay. My great great grandfather hails , according to records, from a town called "Kwieshin" in China. Of course the spelling can not possibly be correct since the officials wrote it down phonetically. Can anyone help me in finding out where this is? It's said that it can be two possibilities: GuangZhou or Wuhan/Wudan?

What officials wrote it down, look at that. For example, officials of a certain time will use the system of that time, meaning pre Mao China, they didn't use the standard pinyin, or mainlkand romanization, unless you mean officials that were non-chinese, and did it by the sound, and then it is impossible to know. But to me, it seems like it is guishan, in modern rominized Mandarin spelling. Respond with more info.
