Not sure how much help I can get but I thought I would try. I have two phrases I'd like to get the literal word translation for. They are in cantonese but based on phonetic rendering by other folks.
sum faht joy kuen gek, bing hay mo jing chung - supposed to mean something about hand forms make the style but weapons come from all over.
sup baat boon bing hay geen geen guy lung - supposed to mean a good martial artist is expert in 18 different weapons

I can understand the second phrase. I think the last word is wrong though. In Chinese characters it should be written as follows.

"十八般兵器"系指:
枪、戟、棍、钺、叉、镋、钩、槊、环、刀、剑、拐、斧、鞭、锏、锤、棒、杵

由于篇幅所限，我就只讲大家唔多熟悉嘅几种。
“钺”读“月”，好似斧，但比斧要大一啲，所以亦比较笨重。春秋战国时期出土嘅钺比较多，但系已经
逐渐失去兵器嘅性质，而作为仪仗饰品及明堂礼乐舞蹈之用。
“镋”读“躺”，好似叉，上面有利刃，两面出锋，形如半月，可以刺击，亦可以防御，兼矛、盾之用。
“槊”读“索”，即长矛，由矛同棒演变而嚟，属于重型兵器，多用于马上作战。张飞使嗰支丈八蛇矛，
其实就系“槊”。
“杵”读“储”，两头粗，中间幼嘅一种圆棍。本来系喺修筑城墙嘅时候扤实啲土嘅，后来喺杵嘅两头用
铁皮包住，或者干脆用铁、铜等材料制成，用以增加打击力度。亦有全部用铁制成嘅铁杵，威力重大，即使打
喺厚重嘅盔甲之上，亦能造成致命嘅伤害。
鞭同锏虽然同属于短兵器，而且外形比较相似，但其实鞭比锏早出现——因为《史记》记载，伍子胥掘咗
楚平王条尸出嚟，鞭咗三百嘢，条气先至叫做顺返，可见春秋、战国时期已经开始用鞭嘞。铁鞭为六角形，而
铁锏则系四棱形。以前使鞭最出名嘅，应该都系呼延家嘅名将。而“杀手锏”就系秦琼最犀利嗰招——流传到
而家，重周不时有人用紧！
