Mandarin language classes for fluent speakers

I'm just wondering, are there any classes out there for people who can speak Mandarin fluently but are functionally illiterate? I'm looking for classes that primarily focus on teaching characters and increasing vocabulary.
I think this describes many of the Western Overseas Chinese here in Beijing. I can speak pretty fluently, so I am not looking to learn grammar or vocabulary. But I never bothered to learn to read or write.
I'm looking for something that will teach me a maximum number of characters in as little time as possible in a structured and motivated environment. Are there any such programs available? Part-time would be good.
