Does anyone know what this symbol means?

I'm supposed to get this symbol tattooed on my ankle next wednesday, but before I do I want to make sure it doesn't mean something terrible. I took it to a lady at a pagan bookstore today, and she said she would guess that it's either Middle Eastern, Indian, or some sort of Asian symbol. I'm posting this on tons of forums hoping someone will recognize it. Thanks!
