There are more then 8 tones.
But there are many kinds of Hakka.

In Taiwan, there are 5 (or more), came from 5 (or more) places China
mainland - Canton.

I speack two kinds, one often speak by the business -
that is so called Four Hsien(ie. county), the other is Hai Lu(ie. sea land)

Actually, Hakka, for the majority of dialects and speakers has only 6 tones. The maximum number found AFAIK is 7.
