I am a 5th grade school teacher and would like to be able to communicate with parents who speak Cantonese. What is available for me to type into a computer and have it translate my English message into a Cantonese message that they can read and understand. I want to be able to use my computer and printer so that I can do this often.

you may try the following:
http://world.altavista.com/
that is the only one that i found on the net so far (for sentences translation).
juz type in your message and it will translates into "chinese" automatically.
please dont expect they translate perfectly. and in fact they are not. also you have to keep the sentence as simple as possible for a "better translation".
however, they use GB code there, you have to use a decoding program (Njstar, Twinbridge, RichWin, etc.) to display the chinese correctly. the characters are of simplified chinese characters (hk ppl are using traditional chinese characters).
juz curious, today (the 21st century) parents of 5th grade students dont speak english?
best of luck2u.
