If anyone else looks at this, i suggest rather than asking someone, you go look at www.zhongwen.com On that site there's a dictionary where you can type in the english and get the corresponding chinese character(s).

what text editor do you use to get your chinese characters. Does it also provide pinyin with tones and English to pinyin lookup (dictionary)?

I'm using XP, notepad, or Wordpad, and the Chinese or multilingual IME which comes with XP. The New Phonetic IME 2002a which I have doesn't need to be tone specific to get the characters. No English-Pinyin lookup dictionary.

You can download CEDICT from

http://www.mandarintools.com

this provides a list of Chinese words with character and pinyin with English translation. You could just download and use the search function of your browser. Change the file name to xxxxxx.txt or xxxxx.htm tho'.
