question about the language

Post by brenda »

I'm doing a paper for class and I wanted to know a few questions if anyone could please help me

1. What is the historical context for your language?
2. How many speakers of this language are there in the world? the U.S.?
3. Does, this language have standard and non-standard forms? dialects based on region, class, religion?

If anyone could help me out that would be great!
thanks

3. Yes. The standard form (mandarin) is base on north dialect. As you know, China is divided into two parts by Changjiang river: the north and the south. The north has only one dialect called North dialect. But the south has many different dialects based on region, for example, Cantonese is used in Guangdond, Guangxi, Hainan and Hongkong.

Trace, what makes you think that Cantonese is used in Guangxi and Hainan?

2. Over 1.3 billion people in the world speak Chinese. Most of them are in China (including mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. Most people in Singapore also speak Chinese.
