Okay, here's a weird question. Let me give a little background first.
I'm a Canadian living in Japan. I want to have a 'Kanji' last name (Kanji is the Japanese word for traditional Chinese characters). However, the Japanese don't have a Kanji with the correct pronounciation for the first syllable of my name ("wou" or "wo", with an o sound like in the word "note").
When the Japanese use Chinese characters, they have two pronounciations: the Chinese pronounciation (Mandarin, but without tones), and Japanese. This means that if I can find a traditional (not simplified) Chinese character with the correct pronounciation (in Mandarin), then I will be able to complete my name.
It's very difficult to find a Chinese character by pronounciation alone, so I was wondering if any of you could help me. Obviously, since it's going to be part of my name, I'm looking for a character that has a good meaning (i.e. not "horse's @$$" or something like that).
So, to reiterate, this is what I'm looking for:
Traditional Chinese characters
Mandarin pronounciation = "wo" or "wou" in which the "o" sound is the same as it is in the English words "note" or "boat". Tone isn't important.
Please shoot me as many as you can think of that are appropriate, and you will have my undying gratitude.
Cheers,
Crowley

Odd Request
Re: Odd Request
倭ㄨㄛ-"wo" was an old name for Japanese...sounds kind of fitting since you are there.
沃ㄨㄛ(4)-fertile: rich as in soil
渥ㄨㄛ(4)-can mean great (kindness)
There are some option but remember most of these meaning don't have an exact meaning. You have to take in context so it might not turnout as you might want it to be. Hope you can find these, but its not easy. Japanese don't use all Chinese characters and some of them have been modified. Chinese doesn't even have a real name for "wo" sound. I really doubt you can find exactly what you want.
