CQuickTrans and Clipboard

Post by Anatoli »

Hi,

Has anyone used CQuickTrans (www.coolest.com) for learning Chinese? I like the tool but I have trouble copying Chinese characters from the application into anything else (eg. MS Word). No problem copying into CQuickTrans, though.

If you know the fix, please post here or email me.

谢谢

Thanks,
Anatoli

Dear Anatoli,

Are you using a registered version of the program? Or just the free download?

What is it exactly that you are having problems with?

Thanks, Kobo-Daishii for your reply.

I am using the free download version. Not sure if this works OK in the registered version.

The problem is in copying FROM CQuickTrans into any other app (MS Word, NJStar Word Processor, MS IE Web Browser, etc

Here I am trying to paste the word 汉语 (after Copy to Clipboard -> All Dictionary Info). You see that the Chinese characters part is broken.

result of pasting:
Word, Reading, Meanings, Input Area Location, Type, Length
汉语, HAN4 YU3, Chinese language , , GB2312, 2

Dear Anatoli,

I don’t know if you have a Unicode font installed on your computer or not.

I usually set the encoding for the “input area section” to utf8 then I do the “copy to clipboard” bit. Then I paste into the “input area section”.

Then I recopy what I want from the “input area section” by right-clicking the mouse and copying or cutting.

Then I paste what I copied into the application that I want to place it in.

This is what I got for Hanyu:

Word, Reading, Meanings, Type, Input Area Location, Length
汉语, HAN4 YU3, Chinese language , GB2312, , 2

If you just want the characters you could always drag the characters from the “dictionary” area into the “input area” and do the right-click routine also. When you do this you don’t have to have utf8 encoding selected.

I don’t know why but the “copy to clipboard” only seems to work when I paste into the “input area” and only when it’s set to utf8.

Maybe this is a problem with the unregistered version only.

I'm thinking of getting the registered version since it's such a fantastic program.

Hope this is of help to you.

Thank you very much. I wasn't able to access this site for a few days, must have been down. The way you suggested I can copy only the Chinese characters, not the whole dictionary article.
