Hi,

I'm new to this forum so I'd like to introduce myself. I'm originally from Vietnam. My parents are originally from a town just over the border with China. My family emigrated to Australia 25 yrs ago. I come from a household that speaks hakka, but slowly English is taking over and now with a young family I'm concerned that we might lose it completely. That's why I think it's so important that I improve my hakka.

I've been trying to find anything that I can online about our version of hakka, but I've hit a blank. I've looked through a number of sites and all seem to mention various versions of hakka such as Moiyen, Sateugog and so on. I know that hakka is spoken in Taiwan, HK, Malaysia but no one has mentioned Ngai. The only people I know who refer to our version of hakka as Ngai is my family.

Can anyone shed any light?

sorry. I found an answer in the Asiawind forum dating back a couple of years ago. Apparently Ngai Wa is from either Northern and Western Guangdong or from Hainan Island.
