Would anyone in this forum be able to help me by providing information concerning the origin or background associated with the following Chinese phrase, which has resonated within my heart:
不到黄河心不死 [bu4 dao4 huang2 he2 xin1 bu4 si3] ?
I understand the literal meaning of this phrase and have seen it translated into English as "refuse to give up until all hope is gone," but I feel there must be some kind of supporting context, which I am hoping someone would please help me with.
Much obliged for your reply.

当记者问到他当初为什么这么匆忙的结婚时,他说:“事实上那时也考虑过这个结果,老话说的好:不到黄河心不死。虽然有人早警告说婚姻是围城,可你还是要情不自禁地走一遭的。”
