Chinese first names in hanzi, please

Post by Anatoli »

Hi - 你好

Please help me to find the characters to write the following Chinese FIRST names (not last names). I am entering the text from an audio course (Beginner's Chinese) into a proper Chinese text and I have trouble with proper names, especially first names. Have already figured out how to get the last names.

Pan4pan
Yu4jie2
Wen2guang1
Ze2bi4
Lan2ying1
Long2
Hua2
Guang1
Jie2
Ming2li4
Jia1bao3
Jian4mu4
Fu2gui4
Feng4
Ning4
Ying1

Zheng4 (there is also a surname, not sure if it's written with the same character as 郑)

谢谢

Just in case if someone is wondering what the numbers mean - they are the tones. The text I extracted the names from has the names in pinyin with the symbols above letters to show the tones. Can't use proper pinyin in this forum.

Please understand in most cases, a certain pinyin (even with tone) can be equivalent to 2 or more Chinese words. So, it'd be easier to "translate" the pinyin into text with more information, e.g. the scope (e.g. it's a kind of food), more words before the pinyin and/or after it.

As you may know, in Chinese, any word can become a first name. But for last names, there are popular ones, such as Chen2, Li3, Zhang1. So it may be easier to translate a pinyin (for last name) into Chinese text. (But please note there're still cases that the same pinyin can be referring 2-3 last names. e.g. Zhang1 can be 张 (more popular) or 章. )

Hope you understand.

I'll try my best to translate your pinyin into popular first names. But as I explain above, it could be referring another word.

Pan4pan: pan4 should be 盼, pan should be 潘
Yu4jie2: should be 玉洁
Wen2guang1: should be 文光
Ze2bi4: ze2 should be 泽, bi4 could be 毕 or 璧
Lan2ying1 : should be 兰英
Long2 : should be 龙
Hua2 : should be 华
Guang1 : should be 光
Jie2 : could be 洁 or 杰
Ming2li4 : ming2 could be 明 or 名 or 铭, li4 could be 丽 or 立 or 利 or 莉 or 力
Jia1bao3 : jia1 could be 家 or 嘉 or 佳 , bao3 could be 保 or 宝
Jian4mu4 :jian4 could be 建 or 健 or 见 or 剑, mu4 should be 慕
Fu2gui4 : should be 福 贵
Feng4 : should be 凤
Ning4 : should be 宁
Ying1 : could be 英 or 鹰 or 樱 or 瑛

Zheng4 (there is also a surname, not sure if it's written with the same character as 郑) : could be 正 or 政

Hope this helps. ^_^

你好!
This is great, J, exactly what I asked for. These people's first names are form a textbook, they are not real people, so the most common writing for the names are what I was after.

Do you mind if I email you with more name questions later on? I don't want to abuse your help.

This site was down for some time.
