I've had plenty of mail sent to me in China and all of the address was in English and Pin Yin. I haven't had any problems with this. Just make sure your Pin Yin is correct.

it's based on pronounciation and probably a syllable has more than 1 word. so the translation may vary. when it's for tattoo, i think you'd better know the meaning as well.

if you want a simpler name, so it's easier for Chinese (or people whose mother tongue is not English), I'd suggest a name with one or two vowels, i.e. Lily - 2 vowels
