Min (閩語) is spoken by about 30 million people in Fujian province, Hainan, and Taiwan. Min varieties are not mutually intelligible with one another. Min is generally divided into Northern Min, with its center at Fuzhou, and Southern Min, with its center at Amoy (Xiamen). The most widely known variety of Min is Southern Min (Minnan, also known as Hokkien, Amoy dialect, or Taiwanese).
