Post by jilang »

Hi

Just wanted to know a few things.

1) Just to make sure, what is the tone for "u e" meaning "some" and is the hanzi 有的?

2) What is the tone for "hak seng" meaning student and "oh tng" meaning school and what are their hanzi?

3) What is the hanzi for "pha phiahnn" meaning 'work hard'?

4) What is the hanzi for "i" meaning "play" and is the tone 5?

5) What is hte hanzi for "nia" meaning "only"?

6) What's the meaning of "pen hua"?

Thanks

I'm glad that I'm able to find out so much. Even though I can speak a bit of Hokkien I'm not too good at identifying the tones in the words I pronounce. What I was wondering was how is it that you and others know quite a lot about romanization and Chinese charactrers for Hokkien? Is it common knowledge among Taiwanese?

u7-e5 (colloquial) = 有-e5. The u7 is the colloquial pronunciation for 有, the literal pronunciation is iu.
