Jeff's Hokkien is impeccable. Jason's tones are a bit inconstant. The older guy has a bit of an accent - his consonants are wrong.
Statistics: Posted by Guest — Wed Feb 24, 2010 1:01 am

Wow!

There was a "Jeff" on Taiwanese TV years ago who I think might have been able to speak Taiwanese, I remember he could speak good Mandarin but I didn't have a TV so I'm not sure. These two look a bit too young for one of them to be the same person. I'm pleased to see there is a new generation of people doing it.
Statistics: Posted by Ah-bin — Tue Feb 23, 2010 7:16 pm

PPS. On another clip (the first one on page 4), Jeff says "öh" for "to learn"
Statistics: Posted by SimL — Tue Feb 23, 2010 7:10 pm

This is a link sent to me by a friend.

http://www.netv.org.tw/movie_1.asp?catid=8#

I only watched about four of the clips but there seems to be three American guys - Jeff and Jason and an older guy whose name I haven't yet been able to work out - who speak Taiwanese *phenomenally* well!

My Taiwanese is not good enough to really know how close to native their accent it, but all three, especially Jeff, sound very good to me. I'd love to hear the opinions of others who are more familiar with Taiwanese.

PS. They seem to say "hö2" for "ho2" (="good"), which has been remarked about before on this Forum.
Statistics: Posted by SimL — Tue Feb 23, 2010 5:08 pm
